    Hi all....

Recently found this forum and have a feeling I will be back much more frequently. I have questions, but I hope I can also provice some answers. TRight now I am looking for the former though.

Installed WP 3.1 MultiSite with subdomains (not dirs) and after some rough bumps got it all set up pretty decent, but all of a sudden (I am sure I DID something, it's almost always user error heheh) I am getting the follwing line when I go to my main domain's home page. It reads.....

You are logged in already. No need to register again!
The site you were looking for, http://domaincom.www.domain.com/, does not exist.

Where domain is my domain name of course. Anyone have any idea what file or line is set wrong that is causing this? I have looked for a long time for it.

    Thanks!

    Chris

Look in your wp-config.php file. What is the value of DOMAIN_CURRENT_SITE?

you're getting redirected to the signup page because you have both the non-www version of the domain filled in and the www version in the settings.

I looked and all that is in the wp-config is the http://www.domain.com address. I have a wildcats addon domain at my host of *.domain.com and that's it. I have searched through all the files I could think of to check and I just can't find anything. It's driving me nuts. Any other suggestions you guys (gals too!) can give me?

I am more design than I am code but I am working on it. ;)

If nothing is in wp-config.php, the next step is to check your database, I think. The wp_site table and the wp_blogs table.

Ok I have been able to get rid of the message by turning registrations off, but that's just bandaging what I see as a shark bite. ;)

If it's any help, here's more weird possibly useless info on this....

    http://www.domain.com takes you to.....

    http://www.domain.com/wp-signup.php?new=domain.com

And I have NO IDEA why.... but I feel it's part of the problem, not the solution.

Anyone willing to take an edumacated guess?

    Thankely dankely!

To add Der to Wood here, I have a feeking I am not grokking a core WP multisite 3.1 concept. Is the main site (I.E. Network Admin to be left for overall management and the actual http://www.domain.com main domain actually be added to WP MS as a subdomain site?

I have found so little useful info on WPMS.

    Thanks...

Have you checked your database, as I mentioned above?

And, no. The main domain for your site does not need to be added as a subdomain.

Gee thanks Andrea, having a bad day?

    :)

I appreciate the pointer but I am familiar with the site and am learning what I don;t know at a frenetic pace but this one seems to haveme stumped. Yes I have looked through the dbase in PHPMyAdmin but I am going back for more, line by line if I have to.

Thanks for all the help (almost) everyone, I am really pushing the envelope on 3.1 with Multisite and shared hosting. And my own knowledge or lack thereof as well of course. :)

    Thanks again.....

Shared hosting -- that's an important point.

You may need to check with your host and make sure they support wildcard subdomains. Setting an addon domain may not be enough (I don't know for sure).

If your host doesn't support WordPress MultiSite, that could be the whole problem.

    Still hunting....

A weird thing though, I can login to the back end on any subdomain site but when I try to do that or as a post for instance using the top multisite menu, it puts me into a loop where all I can access is the wp-signup page. All registrations are turned off, and I can get into the back end through a subdomain, but when I go to the Sites section and click on the main site's Dashboard selection, it throws me back to the front wp-signup page.

    Weirdness..... Thoughts?

because of the www issue. Multisite treats it as two separate things, so you've got the non-www version AND the www version of the domain listed in the database.
