WP 2.8.1 ~ Manually Updated Plugins ~ ALL Content Disappeared from Blog (4 posts)

    Never a dull moment...

I hope I am making sense here... This is VERY strange!

I installed a brand new blog two days ago. I installed through Cpanel using Fantastico.

It was version 2.8 and I automatically upgraded to 2.8.1. I think there was an issue with that, but it told me I had done it successfully. It was strange... It stalled in the middle of the upgrade from 2.8 to 2.8.1. But it said it was done after I refreshed the page.

Everything worked on Saturday. I created a Welcome Post (long), and created a Contact Me Page, Mission Statement, etc.

I am using the Neoclassical theme. Oh, I did add a new header image, but all looked fine when I left it earlier on Saturday.

I could not sleep so decided I would work on plugins.

I have Live Signature plugin which I copied over from my other blog.

Live Signature asked me if I wanted to upgrade it "automatically?" I said yes. BIG mistake.

It stalled in the middle of the upgrade, and I refreshed the page. I decided that maybe the Live Signature plugin was messed up so I overwrote it with the one from my old blog again. Seemed ok!

I'm all confused cause so many things happened.

In the end after I upgraded Askimet and Live Signature I went to the Blog's front page and ALL the content was gone.

However, the content is STILL within WordPress in the Dashboard in the Post edit and Page edit screens.

Any idea what I should do?

Should I delete the entire installation and start over -- maybe staying with 2.8 or installing the 2.8.1 manually instead of using Fantastico.

The thing is, IF this is a chronic occurrence I would be afraid to upgrade my other blogs as they have much more content and it would be a horror to lose years of work.

    Thanks in advance.

    UPDATE:

Someone on Twitter suggested that I DE-Activate the Plugins and see if my content came back.

I DID DE-Activate the two plugins (Askimet and Live Signature) and ALL the content is back on the blog's homepage.

Can anyone help and tell me what I do now?

    Did anyone have this issue?

    Thanks in advance.

    FURTHER UPDATE

It seems the problem stems from the Live Signature plugin.

I RE-activated Askimet and the content remained.

I RE-activated Live Signature and the content DISappeared again.

I am wondering if I remove the NEW Live Signature and use the OLD one - earlier version - if it will work.

Does anyone know of another WordPress Plugin that will produce a signature?

Hope you can help. Thanks so much for reading.

    A FURTHER UPDATE...

I contacted MyLiveSignature.com and informed them of the issues I was having between their plugin and WP 2.8.1

They promptly wrote back and told me they did not create the plugin, but WOULD contact the person who did to see if he was willing to update it.

I am impressed with MyLiveSignature.com ~ Not only their plugin, but their quick response time in getting back to me the few times I contacted them via email. Their response time was within hours. Since I was away from the computer myself for a few hours, I am not sure when they sent the email exactly, but when I returned it was "waiting for me!"

I am wondering IF the prior version of MyLiveSignature will work with WP 2.8.1. I think I'll give it a try. It can't hurt anything. It was the NEW version that I am having trouble with, so I did not give the prior one a try as I was immediately greeted with the opportunity to "auto" update it in the WP Plugin screen.

Would still love your feedback, help and/or suggestions.

    Thanks.
