Backup now....Backup Often!:)
Having the same issue as everyone above. :(
Yeaah, MitchLewis, you are great. I inserted the command AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php in the .htaccess, and it works like a charm. Like yours, my blog is hosted on 1 and 1.
Thanks,
Remi
Awesome, MitchLewis! Fixed my issue also.
Hello, same issue of above posts, i'm on Aruba Server
and adding AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php is just broking all the admin interface (when i click on "widgets" it shows me the php text file rather that renderizing it... lol)
Screen options does not work at all in 2.84.
Am using Linux/PHP 5.23, and tried it with Firefox, Opera, Epiphany.
I have to disable Javascript to see all fields on posts.
Please include option to use older admin pages/theme on next version.
This is very frustrating! Adding options, I will never use, is not an improvement.
Going to try to modify my .htaccess file - will update with success/failure.
This is an hour old install of 2.8.4 - can't figure out what went wrong. Tried to disable all of the plugins (even the default spam one!) and nothing worked.
Nu
.htaccess edit FAILED. Same some others above, made my site show the 'text' of the PHP file.
Note that I am on shared hosting (ADimeADozen.com - a Go Daddy clone), but I do have PHP 5 installed as my PHP version of choice.
Other suggestions?

SOLVED!!!!! See this thread:
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/280162/
I post the COMPLETE solution on page 2, but the posts by stefano.torricelli on page 1 contain the solution.
You will have to edit your /wp-includes/script-loader.php file.

@NuAngel, as far as I can tell, the issues addressed on that thread relate specifically to people hosting with the free godaddy service. As far as I can tell this thread is no related to godaddy issues... although the issue itself produces similar behaviour on WP.
@ALL - I have this issue on 2.8.4
It ONLY occurs when I activate the "WP Events Calendar" plugin. Drag and drop on the dashboard and on the widgets page dies. Also the mouseover drop downs on the admin menus (on the left) die, somewhat randomly depending on what page I am viewing (BTW I use Fluency Admin). So for now I have to have this plugin disabled.
Can anyone else confirm whether or not you have this issue AND you are/were using the "WP Events Calendar" plugin?
Thanks...
Jonathan
@inspired888 - same issue on 2.8.5 with Events calendar. I disabled, did my dashboard work and then re-enabled and the front end seems to function fine but did you find a better calendar plugin?
Nathan
the Events Calendar was the only plugin to trigger the problem for me, as well. however, the problem only started when i changed my URL in general settings, dropping the /wordpress from the address.
strange.
