   I've been trying to reach my wp-admin page, but the page displays "Error establishing a database connection"...

   I know my wp-config settings are correct. Has anyone else been receiving a similar error?

   what does that mean? i was logged in, then i refreshed the page and that error appeared.

   same to me... People cant even leave a comment cause it cant connect to the databse. what's wrong?

   I suggest you to get a new wp-config.php file and edit it accordng to your server then upload it and try.

   You may have modified any of the codes without your knowledge. Give it a try. Once it worked for me!

   I tried making a new wp-config.php file using the version from 2.6. This didn't help either.

   I reinstalled everything... all my old blog entries are gone, now, but I didn't have that many to start with. So, I sort of started from scratch again.

   FIRST OFF... if you're going to upgrade, you should ALWAYS export as an xml file.

   But on all of my WP sites, I had to do a clean install, so removed all files (except my wp-content folder) and dropped all tables in my database. Once I did that, I could get 2.6 to install properly.

   IMO, stick with 2.5 if you have it... or even 2.4. There's too much crap to deal with in 2.6.

   I'm still using 2.5, stories from friendz made me stick to 2.5

   When you upgrade your wordpress blog don't forget to back up you database. Even if you mess up with your existing database you can restore your back-up. If you restore your database you won't loose your incoming links. (we can't afford to loose it.. rite?)

   You can export as XML and restore them, but most of the time you'll loose your incoming links (unless you use same permalink structure), so alwayz make a back-up of your database before you upgrade and if anything goes wrong restore your database.

    Yea, the links will be lost, but for me, that's not a big deal. I'm more concerned with the content, than with the links.

    As I'm reading, though, 2.5 has some vulnerabilities with post injection, which is the culprit for the TONS and TONS of redirect spam lately. If your host isn't running ModSecurity and you're running 2.5, you could be a target of a hacker/spammer.
