WP 2.0.4 - New install went fine, problem with themes (24 posts)

I just installed a a new clean version of WP on a new domain of mine. Everything went fine with the install but something it's right with the images in the themes. The default Kubrick isn't right. So when the new theme I uploaded didn't work it wasn't a surprise. I've worked on and set up several WP blogs and I'm pretty sure I did everything right. It's very bizzare. It's like it's missing something. What I don't know. I'm re-installed it a few times.

Um. Well. I see the normal kubrick default ugly blue blob on white content on grey background.

    Looks normal to me.

Try chmodding your theme folder 755 once.

Files 666 to edit via the blog's control panel.

Make sure it's uploaded right also..it looks borked to me. Like all your images weren't uploaded right, or something..your bg image isn't showing, neither is the footer image, nor header.

hmm, in Firefox it's pretty messed up. I see the blue background color, but not the jpg. All the content is grey, no white.

Pulling locations out her CSS, all the images seem to be where they should be... but not getting rendered.

Weirdness. (messed up in IE and Opera too)

Really? Not happening that way for me. Loads fine, looks fine (unless it's NOT supposed to be showing kubrick....)

[Edit: showing same in all of the big 3 browsers for me, btw....]

I know you're on dialup vicki, but..this is what I'm seeing. (Minus the crappy save of the image LOL!)

Same goes for the footer, image isn't there. Hmm..

Nope, I've satband now. I'm not seeing that at all. Site displays perfectly. And dialup would likely have had nothing to do with it in any case.

lysie, just in case, don't overwrite. Delete the old files and upload new.

Hmm, that's really strange.. what the heck..? =/ I was just meaning about the dialup because of that huge screenshot I took lol. But, since ya have something better now, that's awesome!

Now, only if I can get something better sigh.. anyway, I'm off for a little bit..

probably off topic, but vkaryl, I bet you're benefiting from some caching that your internet provider (satband) is doing... 'cause you're definitely getting all the images that we aren't!

Perhaps to minimize band-width they cache sites -- or even just images. Lord knows, there's a lot of kubrik default images out there.

Lysie6200: Any options at the host related to image protecting or anti-hotlinking that might be screwing this up?

Might be, Handy, hadn't considered that. I wonder.... lysie, do you have anything in the nature of hotlink protection enabled on that domain name?

I though about that and I checked to see if that was the issue but the option wasn't enabled in the cpanel. The other sites I have hosted there aren't having an issues. *shrug*

Is there a viable .htaccess in the root of this particular wp installation? If so, could you post what's included in it please?

Make that .htaccess file 777 using your ftp client or your cPanel file manager. Then access your wp-admin/options, permalinks tab. Select which type of permalink you want, click update.

Should write to it. If not, it should give you some stuff to copy into the file and save.

Well, hope it works! Oh, whatever happens, be sure you set the htaccess file BACK TO 644 when you're done with it!
