Would you recommend Yahoo hosting/domain registration? (7 posts)

Hi. I am completely new to WordPress. I am just in the process of learning the ropes...

I just recently registered a domain through Yahoo Web Hosting. I am afraid I jumped the gun with this, b/c I was not thinking at the time about compatibility with WordPress.

I am wondering what people's opinions of this hosting service are and whether you recommend I stick with it or move to another service (I am also afraid I might lose my domain name if I cancel and switch to another service, but I guess I have to get that worked out with Yahoo).

Yahoo Hosting is not listed as one of the recommended hosting services on this link
    http://wordpress.org/hosting/

Any feedback on using Yahoo with WordPress.org would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would recommend registering your domains so they are not attached to your hosting, regardless of who you host with. Godaddy is a good domain registrar.

Hmmm... I guess I can do this. I will contact Yahoo to see if they will let me cancel me account w/o claiming rights to the domain name I just registered.

Here is a reason for headache. I went on the help section of Yahoo to learn about transferring my domain name to another provider, and got this bit of info

"In accordance with ICANN rules, you cannot transfer your domain to another provider until 60 days after your domain registration date."

Waiting 2 months is not an option. So I guess I can either switch from Yahoo Hosting to simply having my domain registered through Yahoo and finding another provider to host my site. Or I can stick with Yahoo as both my domain registrar and web host, if it readily integrates with WordPress...

WordPress will work on Yahoo hosting...it's best if you have a linux plan.
