• i’m having a few problems with my 1.2 install and thought it would just be easier to delete all the files and do a clean one. BUT, i’m a php dunce as in i don’t know anything. so what i wanted to know was would it be possible to delete all my wp files. do a clean install and use the same database or is that an impossibility? and if that’s not possible, how would it be possible to have my entries be in the new database? hope this makes sense, any help would be greatly appreciative.

  • Yes, you can delete all your files and use the same database. The database will not delete by deleting all your files.
Just be sure to remember your login/password.
Keep your wp-config.php file, there isn’t any point in making a new one, you can use this one again.

    girlwonder,
Your database is physically separate from your WP install. I would back-up your WP folder, then wipe it clean and upload and re-install WP.
From your back-up, you can then move over wp-config.php to you new install folder, and all of your database connection information will be done.
If you have any customized CSS or other files, you can copy them from the back-up to your new install as well.

Heh, beat the Moose by 44 seconds. 😉
