    Hi,

I should really update my version of WordPress but I have made a lot of alterations/adjustments/hacks to my theme, I'm worried that if I update all my customization will be lost.

    Is this true?

    Thank you

Did you edit the default or Twenty Ten themes?

    Hi,

Thank you for the replies. It was a theme I purchased from Themeforest, it is no longer available and the support forum is no more.

I'm nervous because I invested a lot of time into my website. I'm not an expert but I enjoyed learning and I made little fixes, modifications, SEO improvements, even adding custom made plugins. I can't even remember all the little tweaks I've made!

If I take a back-up I guess it's a fairly easy thing to do to restore to the old version of the site?

What are the benefits of upgrading?

    Do I need to upgrade?

    Thank you

The upgrade will not change your theme but, as it's an older, customised, theme, it's impossible to say whether it will work with WP 3.1.3 or not.

What are the benefits of upgrading?

Increased security against hackers. Right now, your site is definitely at risk.

    ok, thank you.

well I guess there's only one way to find out if it will work or not!

if I take a back-up of the server then I can always undo my attempts right?

You should always backup your database before an upgrade. Also switch to the default theme and deactivate all plugins.
