[resolved] wordpress.org forum username, profile, account craziness (4 posts)

This is for whoever maintains wordpress.org and related forums/etc:

There seems to be no logical link between these two profiles: profiles.wordpress.org/<me> and wordpress.org/support/profile/<me> and my username / display names which can be changed on a whim...

Is one getting phased out in favor of another? Where should I keep my info updated? And how do I get my plugin page to properly link to my profile? (Right now - its just a dead link...)

And - as a side note - is it possible to get rid of the 1 at the end of my profile slug: ie change driftless1 to driftless.

**I ran into this same issue when I was implementing buddypress on a site... it seem to have it's own profile system which (in my humble opinion) is frustratingly poorly linked to wordpress' core profile.

OOooh... after more scrutiny, the plugin page seems to be linked to Case Sensitive version of the profile slug (which itself is not case sensitive)...

    See Exhibit A.

    Wow. Ok.

Also notice that wordpress.org links to different profiles depending on whether you are on the "Forums" tab, or the "Plugins" tab...

  4. They're all case sensitive in a weird way.

http://wordpress.org/support/profile/driftless1 is your forum profile. It only shows forum stuff.

http://profiles.wordpress.org/driftless1 is the buddypress profile, which hooks into trac, plugins, forums and everything else tied into that profile :)

You could redirect if you wanted. Like ^support/profile/(.*)$ to http://profiles.wordpress.org/$1

We don't here since the forum mods kinda need access to your profiles ;)

As for your plugin, read http://make.wordpress.org/plugins - Otto's latest post addresses that.
