Sorry if this sounds stupid guys!!!!

Is wordpress 3.0 now MU intergrated?

Also would I be correct in saying that WP MS is for allowing blogs using subdomains and BP is a forum?

If so does that mean I need wordpress/wordpress ms to run BP?

WPMU code has been merged with WP in WP 3.0. So if you already have a WPMU install, the multisite setup is recognized when you upgrade to WP 3.0. And if you have a single WP, when you upgrade to WP 3.0, you can either retain single WP or go multisite.

WPMS allows users to have multiple blogs in one installation irrespective of whether you have BuddyPress or not. BuddyPress is a WordPress plugin which you can use in WP single site or multisite mode.

If so does that mean I need wordpress/wordpress ms to run BP?

Since BuddyPress is a WP plugin, you need WordPress installed first.

    BP is a forum?

No, Buddypress is a social networking plugin. It has a forums component, but is not, as a whole, a forum.

    Thanks for the reply Andrea

TBH!!! I get confused with BP and multisite.

In your opinion what is the difference between the two?

  5. BuddyPress is a social networking plugin (think ning).

WordPress MultiSite allows you to have multiple WordPress sites on one install (think wordpress.com).

    You're comparing pizza to it's toppings :)

(BuddyPress currently uses bbPress, another app, NOT a plugin, for it's forums, but that will be going away as soon as bbPress the plugin comes out.)

    multisite is for multiple blogs.

buddypress is for user profiles. which you can have without blogs.

    wordpress.com is multisite.

    testbp.org is buddypress.

how to install bp in multisite mode

Netowkr activate the plugin. It's global across the network, it's not built in to have one buddypress for each blog.

  9. bbPress is a forum software for WordPress and BuddyPress.

    See http://bbpress.org for more info.
