Support » Installing WordPress » wordpress.com to wordpress.org with bluehost

  • I have been using wordpress.com for almost 1 year. I just decided that I want to move to wordpress.org. I signed up for a host using bluehost.com. I used the simplescripts, wordpress icon. It says I have installed wordpress 2.9.2. I click on the name of my url, and it brings me to wordpress.com.

I am so confused. I thought once I moved to bluehost, I could start using wordpress.org and upload my own themes and start having more control.

Why is it when I am logged onto bluehost, it still directs me to my old domain which hosted my url?

  • You installed your own wordpress blog at bluehost but your domain url is still directing you to wordpress.com? Did you change the paramater of your domain to your new webspace at bluehost?

what do you mean did I change my parameter? what is that?

I don’t want to use wordpress.com anymore. I want to use wordpress.org. I thought it’d be easy with bluehost. But with bluehost, it just redirects me to my url via wordpress.com still. I am so lost.

Did you purchase the domain option at wordpress.com and redirected your wordpress.com to your own domain? If so, you need to undo that.

Every domain will display a website depending on where its NameServers or A record/DNS is pointing. If your site is setup with BlueHost, but not pointed to BlueHost, it isn’t going to display your website at BlueHost.

If you are still not getting this, you may want to call BlueHost. They will be able to tell you what’s wrong with your current site pointers and help you get that setup properly.

If you plan on keeping your WordPress.com posts/content, then you may want to read through the following article to help you get things moved over: http://wordpress.shadowlantern.com/2009/11/migrating-wordpress-to-a-new-location/
