Has anyone ever thought of using buddypress to build corporate intranet sites? I’ve been working on a large project here at work, and a lot of these top companies are doing stuff for intranet sites that are much like social media sites, and buddypress has about 70% of what these other big name solutions have.

Yes I realize that wordpress/buddypress will do about 70% of what jive, telligent and leverage will do. It was amazing to me to get the demo's of these companies products and see that it was almost the same as the standard stuff in buddypress.
I wanted to see if people realized how big the market is for doing corporate internets. These companies charge usually per user. So if a company has 1000 employees, the lowest price I have seen from these companies above is $10 per user. Then add in maintenance. It is crazy to see what these companies charge for the stuff, since wordpress/buddypress does most of it out of the box.
The one thing I will say is the admin interface in most is much better organized and thought out than wordpress/buddypress.
No I mean WordPress is USING BuddyPress for their Intranet.

Answer: Yes. People have and do this for companies.

Well... As they're INTRANETS, and therefore not available to people outside the network, not really. No.
