and are you using a WikiWord ?
He's using the WordPress Wiki, I'm having the same problems.
No password is needed - just make sure you use a WikiWord like Podz suggests...
Example: Nuclearmoose = bad, NuclearMoose=good; in other words, you need at least two capital letters and no spaces.
When I do that, just a user name as suggested in the bottom right corner, I get "You may sign in using any WikiWord as a UserId. (ÀñÃçéà Öãæôßøü etc. may be used too). The UserId will be used as a link in RecentChanges to your UserId page, your HomePage.256 New users may use an empty password."
I got it to work by using something like WordWords (notice the 2 capitals in it). Thanks for clarifying what a WikiWord is :)
