I’m checking in on this too.
I received an email today to wordpress@mydomain.com telling me wordpress had been updated.
This seemed very dodgy to me.
Is it legit or phishing?

Is it asking for anything?
I will! WHY? I don’t like it. I manage many sites and if it updates automatically I have no opportunity to TEST the installation and make sure it won’t break any of those sites PUBLICLY first! I don’t want ‘auto update’ ANYTHING on my sites because it takes my ability to stop a problem before it happens, out of my hands and potentially ticks off a lot of my clients if their sites break. Plus if something breaks it gives me tons more work to do than I should, I have no issues doing this manually as those few minutes could potentially save me HOURS of time. Is there a way to disable this? I DISLIKE IT! This might be the final push that sends me over to Drupal for good. 🙁

Did you read what I wrote? ” … Is there a way to disable this? …”

Yes, but some people say these things rhetorically. If you’re looking to disable it read the resource posted above.
