Hey, i am thinking on developing a typography focused theme and i want to make it whitout a sidebar. Ofcourse, there will be widgetized area in the footer, but none in the content/header. Would this type of layout be acceptable in the WordPress themes section? (i allready have one – Subtle, but it is very standart one)

    Of course! 🙂

A sidebar is merely a feature, not a requirement.

And… i know its diferent question in the same topic, but in dont want to flood it too much so here it is:

Are there some limitations on the “third party” code i can use in the theme? Licensing is covered thought … i mean for options settings. There are many systems that take care of that so i dont have to write it all on my own. Any suggestions on that?

I just want to know how overall the things work with the theme rights on what is alowed to be used and what not. If there is some official article on that i would love to see it, but i didnt found any.

    Thanks

To be included in the official WordPress Theme Directory, your theme needs to be licensed as GPL, which means that any third-party code you include needs to be licensed under GPL as well or a GPL-compatible license: https://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html#GPLCompatibleLicenses

With that said, if you don’t want to be included in the directory, you could release the theme yourself under whichever license works for you, but you would still need to make sure that any third-party code you include is compatible with your chosen license.
