WordPress tag cloud (wp_tag_cloud) list category specific tags (7 posts)

Hi all, I've been searching for a way of doing this, so far tried these two plugins. Unfortunately, both have not worked the way I want:

    http://thedeadone.net/download/tdo-tag-fixes-wordpress-plugin/
    http://www.rene-ade.de/inhalte/wordpress-plugin-sensitivetagcloud.html

Basically, I just want the tag cloud to be category specific. Either, by the category template you're currently in, or by specifying which category you want the tag cloud to be for.

Even better, would be if you specified a category that had sub-categories, it would show all the tags for both. Maybe I'm asking for too much, but if anyone has ever solved this problem, would love to hear about it.

    Thanks

... I don't get it. Tags are not in categories, so your post doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Tag's aren't in categories, but the posts where you've added them are, although I see where you're coming from.

What I would like to have, is a way of showing only the tags that have been added from posts in a specific category. Even if the tag has been used in several categories, I would only want to show the posts relating to the category you're in when you click that tag link.

I would have thought this was possible via permalinks or something, but perhaps I'm wrong.

    So, the URL would be
    /www.yoursite.com/tags/thecategory/thetag

Thanks for your reply, let me know if this is/isn't possible.

Currently, this is not possible. Or, at least, not easy. The categories and tags are basically the same thing internally, so it's difficult to do that sort of thing.

Thanks for your reply Otto, I'll cross my fingers and hope it gets changed in future versions :)

    Thanks again

Hi Desmondo. Did you every figure this one out? I would like to do a similar thing. My categories are for very conceptually different topics. So when someone is in Category A and clicks on tag X, he really only wants to see related posts in Category A that have the same tag. Something in Category B that might mention the same tag X will most likely be pretty much unrelated.

To make a simple example, lets say I blog about Buying Widgets and Selling Widgets separately. Widget buyers read my Buying Widgets "blog" (really just a category), and Widget sellers read my Selling Widgets "blog." Widget buyers who see a tag for "really big widgets" aren't interested in seeing posts about selling "really big widgets," they are only interested in posts about buying "really big widgets," although of course I do have posts about selling "really big widgets."

If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear it. The only thing I could think of short of a magical problem solving plugin would be to alter the tag names slightly for the different categories. ie, "really big widgets" (for sellers only) and "really large widgets" (for buyers only)

I am looking to do this same thing and am shocked to find that no one seems to know how to do it...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
