I have follow the instructions, added <?php wp_footer(); ?> right before </body> and seems all is ok until i try to open the BlogStats section, the page is not loading and I get the message:
    The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
    * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
    * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
    * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I've been trying since yesterday and it's not working.
    Can someone please help me?

    You said:

Where in the instructions does it say you need to do this? I never did this or anything like it... and my WP-Stats is working perfectly. (I just installed it 2 days ago.) Let's review the instructions posted at: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/stats/installation/

Installing should be a piece of cake and take fewer than five minutes.

    1. Upload stats.php to your /wp-content/plugins/ directory.
    2. Activate the plugin through the 'Plugins' menu in WordPress.
    3. It will ask you to enter your WordPress.com API key, do so.
    4. Sit back and wait a few minutes for your stats to come rolling in.

Nothing there about any PHP commands or wp_footer. Are we talking about the same plugin, or are you using something different with a similar name?

pnaw10, wp_footer() is standard in most (all?) themes, and it is the mechanism that WP.com Stats uses to add code to record stats about a blog.

layabozi, very strange and annoying problem. Are you able to see your stats if you login directly at http://wordpress.com/ ?

i'm having the same problem and can't figure out why. i've installed the plugin and entered the api key and it's recording zero traffic.

i'm hesitant to do this thing with the footer because it's not in the installation instructions.

i have wordpress.com stats. any help would be appreciated.

i don't really want to have to install sitemeter script or anything.

    @lloydbudd

first of all sorry the very late reply.
I'm able to see the block on the right side of the section for wordpress stats on the dashboard but still getting the message of not being able to load the page.
I also went in by wordpress.com but the message is the same.
Is it there a chance that this is because the plugin connect to a server that can be blocked here in china?
it's strange anyway, because, my server is not blocked and neither wordpress server.
