• Hi everyone, I have some questions. Working on my site lately I have noticed some pretty serious mechanics issues. For example: periodically my site will not load, often for hours, from any device on any network. Also many plugins and themes do not function correctly. I was thinking at this point it would be good to give the wp framework a fresh start. I don’t really know much about website building, but I tinker with computers quite a lot and when my machines get as unreliable as my site is, I give them a fresh, cleanly reformatted disk and everyone’s happy. I’m assuming wp likes this from time to time as well. Plus, I feel it’s just a good thing to know how to do, given that my site as irreparable crashed once already.

So my question: How do I back up *only* my content (posts, pages, menus) without keeping the messy code (plugins, themes, templates) that is causing my problems? Yes, starting the appearance of my site from scratch *is* what I want to do here.

And then also, with my backup in hand, how do I erase everything on my domain and reinstall wp?

    Thanks in advance!

  • The only way to do this would to install a second copy of WordPress using a fresh database in a sub-folder & export the content from the old install into the new using Tools -> Export/Import. Then, once the new site is ready to launch, remove all files from the old install and see Giving WordPress Its Own Directory to configure the new install to take over the root domain from within its sub-folder.
