My hosting company Servage doesn;t seem to know how to setup SSL properly. So, I am left with the stupid idea of having my main site running on http://www.mysite.com but the SSL running on https://mysite.com
They cannot link it to both - WTF!

So, how can I set this up in WordPress to use
    login on SSL
    all admin area on SSL
1 extra wp-content page on SSL

    and everything else on http.

    Have you reviewed Administration_Over_SSL?

But, will it work for customers?
    If they login to http://mydomain.com
but then get redirected to http://www.mydomain.com
    will the session still work?
The document root is the same, just the DNS at the hosting company, points differently due to shared SSL.

  4. Shared SSL or any URL that does not match the name on the SSL certificate will be a problem and just turning on Administration_Over_SSL won't address that.

Try looking for and using a SSL plugin (read the readme.txt file with each one) until you find one that you are comfortable with.

The first one is promising but really do read the readme.txt file for any gotchas and test on a non-production installation first.
