• By default does the wordpress search only search the title? I have been testing it out trying to change the look of the search page but I notice it seems to be ignoring the posts content, categories and tags and is only searching the title. What I mean is I do a search for a term I know is in the content of a post. And I come up with nothing. I do another search for the same post but with a keyword from the title it it comes up. Is this normal? How can I get it to search everything? Not just the title of my posts?

  • Sure you don’t simply have only the the_excerpt being displayed in search results instead of the the_content?

I don’t mean what wordpress is displaying on the search results page as far as what it shows when doing a search. It’s not a case of if it is showing the whole post instead of an excerpt it’s the actual areas of the post it is searching through. Right now it seems to only be searching the titles of my posts. So if I have a post and the name Keith appears in the post itself but not in the tags, title or category I can search “Keith” and nothing is found even though his name appears a number of times throughout the post. If I had his name however in my title then it finds something. I hope that’s clearer.
