• I’m at the stage of having activated multisite and getting everything working again, and am now considering my next options. I want to create a new wordpress site that will be unpublished until it is all in place ready to go live. It will be a wordpress copy of a site which is currently all plain html, and becoming more difficult to maintain. But can I keep the site ‘off-line’ just on the usual wordpress setup or should I use the ‘moderate new blogs’ plugin please? I’ve never used multisite before so am treading very cautiously.

    Thanks
    Sharon.

Why do you need Multisite for this at all?

Are you trying to create a new site off an existing site, or is the whole WP thing new?

I just thought it would be easier to manage if I could multi-site it, after all, both domains are on the same server, sitting next to each other. One is already a wordpress site, running quite well, the second is pure-html and has become monolithic too maintain, so I want to rebuild it with wordpress.

    Ah, okay, thank you.

So you CAN do this in Multisite. You would, on the WP site (we’ll call it example.com) create a new subsite for pure-html (call it pure-html.example.com)

Port everything over, content etc, make the design what you want. Then park the domain for pure-html.com on top of example.com, and use domain mapping.

The last step would be to search/replace post content for pure-html to use the domain and not the subdomain. Done 🙂
