   Is it possible to only publish a "summary" of the posts that are published to the master site with a "read more" link that directs the user to the actual post. This tool is great, but I'm concerned that I'm now duplicating content.

   Set your tags blog to only show excerpts. That's what we do on http://homeschooljournal.net.

   That depends on your theme. Contact your theme support and ask about excerpts.
