I plan on using wordpress mu to manage multiple sites that are mapped to top level domains. My question is, will using wordpress mu play any part in the rankings of the websites. will seo be affected?

Also, I noticed that all images that I upload are uploaded under site1.mysites.com instead of site1.com. Will this matter in terms of seo for images on site1.com?

Lastly, I am unable to preview posts for my domain mapped websites, is there anyway to fix this?

  • SEO is exactly the same.

If your images are being uploaded to the subdomain, then you;re uploading them while in the admin area of the SUBdomain.

If you want them uploaded to the main site, upload them from there.

What do you mean by main site?

    I’m logged onto

    mywebsite.mywordpressmu.com/wp-admin

when I upload the image it is uploaded to
    mywebsite.mywordpressmu.com instead of mywebsite.com

Could you clarify what you mean when you say the “main” site?

    Thanks!

    Example time!

    You install wordpress on domain.com

Your MAIN site is http://domain.com with posts at http://domain.com/blog/YYYY/MM/DD/POST

Your subsites are http://site.domain.com and so on.

    I’m logged onto

    mywebsite.mywordpressmu.com/wp-admin

when I upload the image it is uploaded to
    mywebsite.mywordpressmu.com instead of mywebsite.com

Did you setup domain redirection so mywordpressmu.com knows that mywebsite.com means mywebsite.mywordpressmu.com?

I am using the domain mapping plugin here http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/

    So I have site.com mapped to site.domain.com.

So everything on site.domain.com shows up as site.com

    domain.com has wordpress mu installed.

Right now when i uploaded images it goes to site.domain.com/images/blah.jpg

can I have it to be site.com/images/blah.jpg?

Yeah, go edit the site info and put the mapped domain in there.

or use a domain mapping plugin that hides it completely.
