• I’m not sure I set up my site properly but wanted to know if anyone can help me out. I have main site, lets call it sports.com and subdirectory sites of all professional leagues(ie. NBA, MLB and NFL.) Most of my post are displayed with pictures on the front page, however, they typically only stay there for about a half a day and then get buried behind new content.

Currently, I post one article on the front page and multipost to its corresponding league. For example, An NBA article on the main site and one on the NBA(subdirectory) page.

Will Google ding me for the duplicate content and is there a better way of posting articles to avoid duplicate content with subdirectories?

    Thanks for any help.

  • Its not mu any more.

Also, I’m wondering why you’re using multisite when it sounds like you’re just setting up categories.

Correct, if I’m wrong. I wanted the ability to create a unique front page for each league/category rather then having a list of post.

You can still do that with categories.

Multisite would only be needed if you absolutely needed to separate the admin areas.

Like Ipstenu said, category templates do what you want.

Each sport/category does have a separate admin/editor and numerous contributors. Is the category_templates still the way to go?

After viewing similar sites, most of the items on their homepage are links to their corresponding sport/category.

only if you really really need the admin sections separated.

If you;re posting on the main site and them posting to sub sites, why do the sub sites have editors?

In multisite, usually the sub sites get posted to, then using Sitewide tags plugin all entries get pulled to the main site.

I have a couple of writers on my team which write articles that cover all sports and are posted on the main site then pushed out to their corresponding sub site. I also have a group of writers for each sport, which write specifically on one sport. The editor handles those post, however, most do not make it to the homepage.

The site is growing and I’m just trying to streamline the process. Do you think that plugin is the way to go?

@andrea_r thanks for all your help on this matter.

you’d only use sitewide tags if you wanted ALL posts to be going to the front.
