I am using Version 0.9.1 of WordPress Mail SMPT.

For from email, I am using the one that I set up with host gator.
I have been with a Host Gator tech for an hour trying to get a test email sent correctly but no luck

    Settings are:

Mailer: send all mail via SMTP
SMTP Host: Tried everything the hostgator guy recommended, even localhost
    SMTP Port: tried 25, 26 and 465
    Encryption: tried yes and no
    Authentication: tried yes and no

Any advice that you could give me would be appreciated.

We can’t answer problems regarding WP Mail SMTP, please ask their support.
There is a “Test email” button, you can try there which setting makes email work.

The author of that plugin stopped his support in 2008. As it stands, I have your auto responder software that only uses the wordpress mail function which does not allow me to change the ‘from’ field. When I received test confirmation email, the link wasn’t clickable. I’m sure that if you can fix these issues your sales will sky rocket.

You can use WP Mail SMTP without using SMTP and still change the “from” address. I really can’t help you regarding sending SMTP email, this functionality goes outside of BFT.

Regarding the link – it’s HTML link, and pretty clickable for me and, to the best of my knowledge, for everyone else. How could we know what’s the issue in your case when we can’t see it?

Here’s another plugin that handles SMTP: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-smtp/

And if you do a search in WordPress plugins page you’ll find plenty of other ones too.
