    Hi all

I’m having a had time with what I believe should be an easy install

I made a new mysql database on 1&1

    downloaded wordpress from wordpress.org

changed the config file using the information in the 1&1 control panel – that is their database name ‘db203********’ ; the host name ‘db***.perfora.net’ etc. and then saved as wp-config.php

uploaded all files to a new ‘blog’ folder in the root dir. of my website at 1&1 using Yummy FTP (mac)

so now I want to go and configure wordpress, so I type in site, adding /blog/wp-admin/install.php and get the following message

Warning: main(/homepages/24/d168954731/htdocs/ blog/wp-includes/wp-db.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /homepages/24/d168954731/htdocs/ blog/wp-settings.php on line 100

    Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/homepages/24/d168954731/htdocs/ blog/wp-includes/wp-db.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /homepages/24/d168954731/htdocs/ blog/wp-settings.php on line 100

can anyone tell me where I’m going wrong here?
    many thanks

Something happened in your upload probably.

Save a copy of that wp-config.php file, delete the blog folder on your host.

Assuming you want WordPress in the blog folder, upload the whole wordpress folder, then rename it to blog, then put your wp-config.php in the blog folder. Then navigate to http://www.sample.com/blog and you’ll get a link to install. Of course the http://www.sample.com will be your domain.

Filezilla is a good FTP program.

Hi Michael – I appreciate your help.

I did exactly as you suggested. I used Fetch though, as I am working on a Mac. Here’s the latest message once I tried to navigate to http://www.sample.com/blog

Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/homepages/24/d168954731/htdocs/blog/wp-settings.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /homepages/24/d168954731/htdocs/blog/wp-config.php on line 20

here’s the message if I try to navigate to http://www.sample.com/blog/wp-config.php

Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/homepages/24/d168954731/htdocs/blog/wp-settings.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /homepages/24/d168954731/htdocs/blog/wp-config.php on line 20

    this is driving me nutty!

    any ideas?

Still sounds like you don’t have a complete set of files there.

Consider downloading a fresh copy of WordPress from http://wordpress.org/download/ and using that.
