WordPress index.php not picking up my style sheet (19 posts)

    Hi there,

I've got this really strange problem, i've been working on this site for a few weeks now without much of a problem. I'm fairly used to working in WordPress but i've never come across this problem before.

I was working on the site today and i was pulling in the content from the template files into WordPress so that the client has complete control of the whole site.

I've managed to get the markup into wordpress no problem but all of a sudden my footer.php, index.php and contact.php files don't seem to be pulling their all styles from the stylesheet. It appears to be picking and choosing what styles to add and the googlemaps api doesn't seem to be working on contact.php anymore.

What's even stranger is that these .php files haven't been inputed into WordPress at all. They just all of a sudden stopped working.

I'd love to know if anyone has come across this problem before? And if anyone could lend some assistance it would be greatly appreciated.

    Many Thanks,

    Cameron

    Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    Hi There,

I haven't installed any new plugin today, so i don't think it would be a plugin issue.

I've tried switching themes but as the .php files that aren't responding to the css are specific to the theme that i'm working on it doesn't show me if it's working or not once i've switched.

    Thanks for the response though.

Thank you, i've tried all suggested steps and it hasn't seemed to help any of my issues.

That site is not using Twenty Eleven.

I swapped it back as it's a live site for a client.

But that it's back to Twenty Eleven now.

What would you suggest i do now?

I can;t see any issues with the CSS in the Twenty Eleven theme, so the problems are within your previous theme. Where did you download it from?

None of my pages can be found except the homepage.

Do you know why this would be?

I've built it form scratch but it's been in use for months without any problem.

It just happened today as i was transferring content in from the template php files into wordpress.

    It's also in use here.

Please switch back to the Twenty Eleven theme

    Okay no problem.

That's it switched back now, the content seems to be getting pulled in from the wordpress side of things now.

Any thoughts on how this effects some of the .php files not pulling in the css from my theme?

All of your Pages & Posts work just fine when using Twenty Eleven. So the issue is definitely in your theme. If this is a custom theme, does it confirm to the guidelines in http://codex.wordpress.org/Designing_Themes_for_Public_Release and http://make.wordpress.org/themes/guidelines/

That should help to eliminate most theme issues.

I never had a problem pulling in the content it was more the styles not getting rendered.

It was strange how it picks and chooses what style to display. On the same page within the same div's the margins might work but the floats do not, very weird!

    Thanks for the links.

I'm considering re-installing wordpress, do you think this would help at all?

it was more the styles not getting rendered.

Which still suggests issues in your theme. Have you tried validating your pages or CSS?

Yeah i've tired validating. It does have errors and warning but they had those errors and warning before today. I haven't touched my css file and the php files that aren't working haven't been touched in weeks.

Then there's nothing I can usefully determine from here - other than it's a theme issue. :-(

I posted a similar issue today on wordpress and resolved it by changing file permissions. Try checking if your stylesheet is writable via FTP.

More reading about changing file permissions here:

    Hope this helps.
