WordPress In It's Own Directory – Codex clarification

Hi Everyone – I’m in need of some help and clarification of information in the WordPress codex.

I want to place WordPress in its own directory but have that directory appear as the root to ends users. For instance, if I install WordPress in the directory ‘wordpress’, I don’t want users redirected to seeing ‘http://domain.com/wordpress’, I want them to just see http://domain.com.

I have been reading:

It’s not clear to me if this accomplishes what I want or if this will simply redirect users to the subdirectory and make the subdirectory visible.
