wordpress hacked /spammed wp_posts wp_comments

so my host tells me that my :
wp_posts & wp_comments tables are producing too much traffic and are violating their TOS – apparently they were spammed – how do I fix it? the best their support could get me to was the tables in the sql database but they had no insight into what was producing it. does this sound like someone hacked my whole wordpress or put in spam comments?

any insight in how to solve this?
