wordpress error: is trying to connect to old database? (9 posts)

    I recently moved to a new host and imported everything, including old database. I changed my wp-config.php file, but I get the following error:

    Error establishing a database connection

    This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at mysql09.powweb.com. This could mean your host's database server is down.

    It's pointing to the old database at powweb, but I've changed the wp-config.php file to the database at dreamhost. Any suggestions?

    See step 6:

    Moving_WordPress#Moving_WordPress_to_a_New_Server

    Actually, steps 5, 6, and 7.

    Yeah, I saw that. Actually, the domain name did not change and I kept everything with the same structure. The database at the old host is empty. Hmm, looks like I can get into the admin area fine. When I go to the front page, it shows some links to the most recent entry I had, but with that error I listed.

    Does your index.php file at http://somegirlwitha.com have:
    require('./wordpress/wp-blog-header.php');

    Any chance there's an index.html file in your http://somegirlwitha.com directory? If so rename or delete it.

    Can you login here:

    Ok, it's renamed, but it doesn't look like that did anything. I had it there as a place holder. I wondering why it's pointing to the old database when there's nothing there, yet I can access the admin area with everything in tact. I even tried backing up the wordpress database with that backup plugin, and it's exporting from the new dreamhost database, so I'm not sure what's wrong. Is there any other place that calls up the database info?

    I just went to http://somegirlwitha.com and after a bit I got the top part of your blog showing the default theme with "Geek Salad" being the post it was trying to show but then also got the database connection error. Seems it's still something with your host or a plugin. Maybe a plugin is causing the problem.

    Since you can login as admin might consider trying to disable some plugins. And maybe try changing the Theme.

    Thanks for your patience btw.

    That worked! I disabled them, and actually renabled them. Hmm, wonder what it was?

    No no, thank YOU for your help.
