   At http://wordpress.org/download/ it says the file should be 1.2 MB, but the server is sending me 1.8 MB.

   It's strange you should ask that. I used both the .zip and the .tar files today with no problems.

   (1.76 and 1.54MB respectively)

   I doubt there is any problem. It seems like an editing over-sight to me.

   WP 2.6.5 was 1.44 and 1.24 (zip and tar respectively) so It's hard to believe that anything nefarious is taking place. Good catch. I wait for other comments..

   On the bright side we have the same file size, whatever it may contain.

   I think the OP is referring to the fact that on the download page it states the ZIP file is 1.2 MB when it is actually larger that that.

   @miqrogroove - No the download package wasn't hacked but that's a good question to ask. Shows you are observant. ;)
