wordpress doesn´t let me modify my pages (6 posts)

Hi, I´m new in this. I´ll try to be specific.

In my work we have our site with wordpress some time ago (years) I was in charge of modifying our website with little changes. Bu things changed and another person was put in charge of this.

I must say I didn´t create or installed wordpress it was made by someone else which I can´t contact anymore.

Anyway, today I got a call from the person in charge of this and asks me to help her. I don´t know what happened but we can´t access the pages that were previously created. In the dashboard we can see we have 31 pages but I can´t click on it (it seems the link is not working)

I remember last time I made a change to wordpress it was using version 2.7 and now this person calls me and I see version 3.0

I already asked her if she made a change or updated something but she keeps telling me she didn´t do anything (I don´t believe her)

I really suspect she screwed up everything because an annoying message was appearing asking to make an update and she probably did it

Please help me I don´t know what to do in order to gain access to the pages and the left side also seems modified (with less options)

It also says wordpress is using: Flexx Theme - Bold with 3 widgets

Hey, first of all, check the user role assigned to you/her. Maybe another administrator changed your user roles to something that doesn't allow to edit pages. This explains why you're seeing less options on the left side menu. Go to your/her profile and check the assigned user role.

If that is not the issue, then go to tools > export > select all content > download export file. By this way you will have a backup of all pages. If you have access to the cpanel, you can always do a database backup.

Now that you have a backup, go to plugins and deactivate them all to see if you can access the pages.

The forum here doesn't support paid themes like flexx so you may get faster support at http://ithemes.com/forum/

Anyway, post back your findings here after following the above steps. There is always someone willing to help.

I´m sorry but the only administrator is the one we have used to log in.
I went to the profile and couldn´t find the assigned user role

I went to tools but I couldn´t find the "export" option you´re referring me to. As a matter of fact I have no options there just something called "press this" (which says this: "Press This is a bookmarklet: a little app that runs in your browser and lets you grab bits of the web.

Use Press This to clip text, images and videos from any web page. Then edit and add more straight from Press This before you save or publish it in a post on your site.

Drag-and-drop the following link to your bookmarks bar or right click it and add it to your favorites for a posting shortcut".)

So I don´t know what to do without tools. I can´t make a back up

How do I go to plugins? I´m sorry but I can´t see that option anywhere.

Please, can you explain what is a paid theme?

Sorry for this but I´ll do my best to fix this...just be a little bit patient with me please.

    Thanks.

yeah, since you can't see the plugins and tools, that means you don't have the capabilities as an administrator. After you login, try adding the "plugins.php" to the end of the url. e.g.: yourdomainname.com/wp-admin/plugins.php let me know what happens.

If you can't get into plugins, you will need access to the hosting cpanel to deactivate the plugins from there.

In regards to the "paid themes", everything here is open source and free. However, some businesses get what is free here, do some modifications and sell it (your theme). This means that since you paid them, they should give you support and not the free community.

I might go to bed soon, so if you get the hosting access or perhaps you have an FTP account follow the steps on this page to deactivate all plugins. http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F

The idea to deactivate the plugins, it's to find and rule out if there is any conflicts with the plugins. The problem may be something else.

Yes, it looks like user you use to log in doesn't have the capabilities..
You might have to change the user role through Database, if that is the case!
