   Error establishing a database connection
   
   This either means that the username and password information in your
   wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server
   at localhost. This could mean your host's database server is down.

   The wp-config and username + password is fine, so it must be the host?
   I've been having this problem whenever massive amounts of people try to log onto my wordpress blog at the same time.
   Is this the server's or wordpress' fault?

   If it is wordpress' fault, is there anything I can do about this?

   Any help would be appreciated!

   What caching plugin are you using? I could suggest http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-super-cache/

   Are you on a shared or dedicated host?
   What do you consider as massive?

   we are currently on a dedicated host

   and a rough estimate of 5000 users trying to log on at once
   just a guess though, could be way off

   Ill have to check google analytics later, going on a business trip later tonight

   EDIT: also I have currently no caching plugin so far
   The template I am using is a custom one, I have a bunch of ads

   Our advertisers would go crazy if all of a sudden their ads didnt update when we needed them to. If I installed a caching plugin, would it keep the ads from updating?
