hello: About 2 months ago, fed up with erratic log-ins at blogger.com, my newspaper switched to WordPress for its blogs at thegazz.com, an onine multimedia magazine. We are now getting spammed mercilessly by porn and gambling spammers to old posts in our comments, even though a user name and password is required to post a comment and I flag posts as spam. I returned from the holidays to find at least 100 such spams in old blog comments. I am now looking askance at WordPress and wondering if I made an error in using it for a newspaper site's blogs. Any thoughts? I am the editor of the magazine and did not set up the blogs -- one of our techies did -- so I can't talk in code. Any help appreciated

I agree with HandySolo.
Bad Behavior will stop 80-90% of all porn spam. For the rest, Spam Karma will fix it.
On my WPMU site both plug-ins are standard, and probably they are elsewhere.
Trackback spam unfortunately will bypass the u/name and p/w needed to post. The only hope is the spam stopper plugins.

vkaryl,
The plugin trackback validator fixes the trackback spam problem.
I'd say Spam Karma 2 is the solution. I had the same problem, with upwards of 1000 porn (and illegal medicine) spams, trackbacks etc., for two separate blogs. SK2 really sorted it all out. They'll eventually get tired of it.
Bad Behavior + Akismet is definitely the way to go. BB will stop 90% of it instantly, and Akismet will catch the rest.
cageyjames, spam karma 2 already does what that plugin does, and much more.
Heh. I use the good combo. I so far don't need anything else, cageyjames....

Thats fine, I use Akismet and with Trackback Validator it works great (though Akismet seems to catch most issues).
SK2 just isn't my style.
