WordPress automatic update doesn't work from 2.9.1 and 3.0.1? (10 posts)

I have several sites running WordPress. Two of them have not been updated for a longer period, one running 2.9.1 and another 3.0.1. I try to update to 3.0.4, but the automatic update doesn't work. I've tried two options:

    1) Using the WPAU plugin. Going to the first step (backup) results in a blank screen (WP admin menu is there, but no content for the update process).

    2) Using the link in the "WordPress 3.0.4 is available! Please update now" alert. The "update automatically" button appears. I press it, and I see a new page and the message "Downloading update from http://wordpress.org/wordpress-3.0.4.zip". Then nothing happens.

What can I do to fix this?

    1. Do not use the WPAU plugin.

    2. Try adding AddType x-mapp-php5 .php to the top of your WordPress .htaccess file.

Thanks for the tip. I tried it but it didn't help. I'm going to update manually. Hopefully that will solve this problem for the future.

Try adding AddType x-mapp-php5 .php to the top of your WordPress .htaccess file. That might fix your auto upgrade problem.

    i have the same problem

  7. If the upgrade hangs on 'downloading' it GENERALLY means you're out of memory.

    Try applying this plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/memory-bump/

If that fails, you'll need to do it manually.

Most likely it's a plugin causing the problem. Try disabling each plugin in turn and try to upgrade. I did this and found out that after disabling the "Elastic Theme Engine and Editor" plugin the upgrade worked for me. Good Luck!
