wordpress as charity website

    Sorry if this seems a stupid question, I was wondering about using wordpress to create a site where I have a domain name and hosting facilities elsewhere.
    I was under the impression that when you created a site using wordpress, that you were given the domain name wordpress/your site kind of thing?
    Can anyone help me
