   Hi
   I need to build a small social networking site (500-1000 users max)
   The functionality that I need is the ability for users to create a profile (which will be automatically posted as a "page", not as a post), and have that database be search-able by other users.

   Seems like WordPress should be capable of doing this?
   thoughts?
   recommendations?

   Not sure about a "page", but might want to review the concept of the Author Templates and some author plugins. Here's a few resources:

   http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/addauthor/ inside the loop, a gravatar of the author of the post, the description of the author of the post, the nick of the author of the post and the date of the post.
