WordPress Add Page & Permalinks Pages Chewing up CPU (7 posts)

I have the newest version of WP running on my site. I have about 100 Pages and 0 Posts. When I attempt to add new pages the CPU usage on my server is chewed up to 100% by processes. If I attempt to access the PermaLinks page in the administration panel my server basically freezes.

I am on a Dedicated VPS server with a 2.0GHz CPU assigned to the site and 1GB RAM. Please let me know if there is any way for me to fix this problem, aside from reinstalling the system. I would like to utilize the software as best I can, but if WordPress is not the software I need to run my site I will have to change. I just like the software and it's ease of use.

that's just as bad. see http://ottopress.com/2010/category-in-permalinks-considered-harmful/ for the reason.

The solution is to use a permalink with a number in it, such as year or id.

However, this has been fixed in 3.3

@fonglh - where did you see this is fixed in 3.3?

I have a site with 800+ pages. We don't want to change the permalink structure but saving a page nearly crashes the server.

I changed the permalink structure. Not of the pages, but of the Blog Posts. My site is minimal in Blog Posts (well okay 0 Blog Posts) so this Permalink structure did not matter ;) My issue was fixed and I am not on 3.3.
