I recently updated to WP 3.5 and all seemed well.

Last night i tried to edit a syndicated post and found the visual editor tab missing. Managed to edit in html mode but what a pita! Any suggestions?

    Happy Holidays everyone.. :)

Go to dashboard, users, your profile and check visual editor settings.

Kmessinger, thanks for the tip. But Disable the visual editor when writing is unchecked. That's the only option available in my profile.

Did some more checking, It's there on new posts. And on posts i author its there. But the posts that are added via "FeedWordPress" syndication are not. Here is a screen shot. http://www.fidosysop.org/syndicated-novisualtab.jpg

I even checked other authors accounts as FeedWordPress creates never before syndicated authors there new member account, but non of them are showing the visual editor disabled in their profiles either. Weird.

And FeedWordPress was just updated for WP 3.5 a few days ago, so i don't know if the finger should be pointed at it or not.

I use the same plugin. I just checked it and both tabs are there BUT there was a message to update and I did. Of course you know what happened.
    No tabs and html only.

I am pretty sure it is the plug in.

Is it javascript related with the plugin? Are their any other abnormal WP behaviors with the plugin installed?

I know a lot of times if the editor tabs don't work or are not visible.. it very likely could be javascript related.

EDIT: What happens if you deactivate all the other plugins except that one?

What happens if you deactivate all the other plugins except that one?

I don't have time right now to go thru the complete debug protocol. But that was the only plugin I had activated.

If you deactivate the plugin then pending posts will show both tabs. Then after editing you can activate it again. That would be a temporary workaround.

I added the plugin name to tags and hopefully that will be picked up by the developer.

Kmessinger, I agree, sounds like FWP could be the culprit. I will create a thread on the plugin support page and post this link there for reference.

Josh, no i don't notice any other abnormalities.

OK, Radgeek is aware of this situation.
    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/feedwordpress-and-wysiwyg?replies=7

"This behavior is deliberate. The reason why FeedWordPress does this is because of an unfortunate feature of the Visual Editor -- even though it is capable of understanding posts in full, ready-to-display HTML, it actually strips out a great deal of HTML when you save posts in it -- on the assumption that paragraph breaks will be restored by WordPress's built-in formatting filters. However, since FeedWordPress stores syndicated posts in full, ready-to-display HTML, and deliberately bypasses WordPress's formatting filters for syndicated posts, this causes an issue where any syndicated posts that are edited in the Visual Editor will usually show up with all their line-breaks and paragraph breaks seemingly stripped out. This was frequently reported as a bug by FWP users in earlier releases, so in order to avoid the possible bad interaction, I simply disabled the Visual Editor for syndicated posts (since it deals so poorly with them in general).

If it's important to you to get the Visual Editor back, I think I can actually work out a quick compromise solution, which will enable the Visual Editor for syndicated posts if and only if you have FeedWordPress set up to expose syndicated posts to formatting filters, rather than bypassing formatting filters as it normally does. If you have that setting turned on, then the effects that Visual Editor has on syndicated posts' HTML should not cause the harmful results that were seen when it is turned off. Does that sound like something that would work better for you? If so, let me know, and I'd be happy to drop a note onto this thread when the compromise fix is ready.

Looks like this is settled then. I will use the fix until the upgrade comes out.

You can mark this resolved I think.

    Hey all,

So, just as a follow-up, this is now fixed in the most recent release of FWP, 2012.1218. (Available from WordPress plugin repository at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/feedwordpress/ or from Github at https://github.com/radgeek/feedwordpress/ )

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,
    -C

Thanks everyone, I use FWP and of course experienced the same problem. Had a syndicated post from typepad come in yesterday and it took forever to re-do the images, as I often have to do with blogs that aren't self-hosted. Just saw the FWP update and applied it, and my visual/Text tabs are back. Thanks to radgeek for the fix!

Folks if you use and appreciate this plugin send him a small token of your appreciation. It's Christmas Time.. :)

Still would like the HTML tab back instead of it being a test tab that's now in place for 3.5. Used the HTML tab to place YouTube videos in posts. Don't like the video short code at all. The player looks bad (too much boarder at the top and bottom).

Hope the HTML tab comes back.

I don’t use FWP and have had the visual editor problem. Disabled all plugins etc, with no success. My visual/html editor is completely disabled since the 3.5 update.
Weird thing is, it works fine on my iPhone, just not my Mac.
    Any suggestions?

My visual editor is also not functioning since I updated to 3.5. I've tied the suggested remedies.

Got VISUAL editor back following XILZEN suggestion here:

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/post-editor-missing-in-wp-35-after-upgrade?replies=58

    It's very easy too!

    I had the same problem.

got the visual editor back after deleting the wp-admin and wp-include folders via FTP and uploading their new version via FTP from the latest 3.5-download (upper right corner)

(I also uploaded the german languages files again, reactivated my plugins - and it's fine.)

I recently migrated my website to another host.
When I create a new page the Visual Editor works until I save or publish it. After the pages updates the Visual Editor disappears and the text turns to white.
I have the same problems with all pages even the ones that used to work on the previous host.
This only happens to pages, not posts.

I used the option Customized structure, /%postname%/, for the Permanent Links config. Now on the new host it is Post name and if I try to change to Customized structure when I save I get back to Post Name option. My host support told me they do not provide WordPress support...
I tried exporting and importing pages, same results.

I am using Magic Members plugin, when I turn it off the Visual Editor works perfectly.

    Any suggestions?

Problem solved. It was related to the memory config. When I changed to 256MB it worked.

    Thanks

I realize this is an older thread but I fixed the missing editor issue by installing the 'use Google Libraries' plugin.

My Visual Editor too was not being displayed, I was having to type all my posts in the 'Text' html box.

How I fixed it... I uninstalled the plug-in called Ultimate TinyMCE. Searched for a new plug-in called TinyMCE Advanced. <--activated this new one, & all was fixed.
