WordPress 3.5 Issues (19 posts)

    Hi

I uploaded the new version, WordPress 3.5 as soon as it was available but have come up with 2 issues so far:
    1)
When I go down foir the next paragraph it does not retain the font so I have to reset it for every paragraph.

How do I set a default font for my blog?
    2)
When I add links, usually just after my post, when I save either as a draft or publish it loses the links which obviously is no good.

Has anyone else reported this, any ideas?

Thank you, in anticipation, for your help

    Phil

This sounds very strange. And it sounds like there's an issue with the theme.

How do I set a default font for my blog?

This is normally done in the CSS of your theme.

I would try switching to one of the default themes like Twenty Twelve or Twenty Eleven and see if that fixes things.

Not sure what you mean about "just after my post". Are you adding these in the admin, in the template files? How are you inserting these?

    Hi
After my post I usually add links to relevant articles for further reading by the usual method i.e. highlight the text, click the link button and paste the link into the box but as soon as I save, publish or draft the links become inactive

    Hi

Yes I tried Twenty Twelve and it is exactly the same, currently working through plugins but seruiously think it is down to 3.5, if the plugins don'y come up trumps what is the process to revert back to previous version?

    Hi

Tried plugins but appears still the same, will have another look in the morning but looks to have been issued too soon, must be a problem with 3.5, really wish I hadn't installed it now.

there must be a lot of people having these problems, any other ideas?

For now, it is time for bed, good night!

    Hi

With regard to links, all my posts have links at the end of the post but they were all posted before I upgraded but you can see what I mean by links!

Again I know we must be patient but the amount of valuable time you can waste on something like this is frightening

    My site is http://www.itsjustlife.co.uk

Remember the links are important enough but it is also the font size, to have to reset it for every paragraph is really annoying and it is the same after I have deactivated ALL my plugins!

Thank you for your help, it is appreciated.

My problem is how to reorder my pictures in the gallery. I used to be able to do that And now I can't figure out how to do it. I can see all the pictures in the gallery but can't move them around. This is not a NextGen gallery, just regular media gallery.
    What am I missing?

As per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic. Posting in an existing topic prevents us from being able to track issues by topic. Added to which, your problem - despite any similarity in symptoms - is likely to be completely different.

    @dalewood
You do have some validation errors and javascript errors on the frontend.

The backend is almost totally controlled by javascript. When you have the dashboard open use this to check for problems http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Your_Browser_to_Diagnose_JavaScript_Errors

    Hi
Don't know what is happening, posted about 4 hours ago but seems to have vanished, as if it has been taken down.

I am sorry to continually highlight errors with the 3.5 upgrade but they are a fact and it is no good hiding from them, WordPress is the worlds best blogging program even web site but this upgrade does not work, to repeat:
    1)
I cannot maintain fonts when I paragraph down, need to reset fonts for every paragraph!
    2)
At the bottom of every post I put links to relevant articles, highlight text, click link icon, insert link and save but when I save it messes up the spacing and the link vanishes!

I have tried the Twenty Twelve theme and deactivated ALL my plugins but to no avail.

Is no one prepared to help, just accepting you have a problem with 3.5 would be a step forward.

I need to sort this out so can someone please, please either let me have a solution or outline a safe method of reversing the upgrade because everything worked fine before.

Please just talk to me, I thank you, in anticipation, for your/any help.

    Phil

Duplicates get deleted and that post was a duplicate of this one.

Your site http://www.itsjustlife.co.uk/ is using one of the most option ridden themes in the history of WordPress. On top of that you are using lots of plugins too with a ton of Javascript.

I cannot maintain fonts when I paragraph down, need to reset fonts for every paragraph!

Not sure what you are referring to. As Christine mentioned a week ago the styling (fonts) are controlled by the theme you are using. How are you changing the fonts?

At the bottom of every post I put links to relevant articles, highlight text, click link icon, insert link and save but when I save it messes up the spacing and the link vanishes!

How are you adding those links? Do you type in the text, highlight the text and then use the link icon in the Visual Editor?

We'll need to know those two answers in order to help you figure out where your problem lies.

I just wrote this up for another thread, try this and please do not leave out a single step.

    1. Deactivate all of your plugins. Really, everyone of them and no exceptions.
    2. Switch to the Twenty Eleven theme. Someday, probably soon, I'll tell people Twenty Twelve but for now use Twenty Eleven.
    3. Clear your browsers cookies and cache. This is an important step because javascript files can be cached on your browser.
    4. Re-login to your WordPress installation.
    5. Create a new post and see if the Visual Editor works or not.

Don't skip any steps and definitely clear out your browser's cache and cookies.

Let us know how you make out with that. If that does not work then you'll need to proceed with other steps to diagnose your problem.

    Hi
Thank you for your help and sorry for being a little impatient.

Yes that seems to have solved the problem apart from the paragraph down font size problem which is probably down to the theme.

For info I change the fonts by highlighting the text and clicking on the box in the top left corner, is it possible to set a default font for the site?

I am reducing my plugins, I am sure some of the plugin functionality ois now dealt with inside WordPress but with regard to the theme, I can appreciate the options available within Atahualpa can be a nightmare, what I am looking for is a rotating header, one sidebar either side, the ability to remove sidebars on pages and easy insertion of html script etc. can you recommend a more WordPress friendly theme?

I will keep you informed of developments and once again thank you for your help

If you are doing that with each post and you want that to be the default then yes.

Normally you can do that via a child theme and place your custom CSS in the child theme's style.css file.

But that theme may have an option for that somewhere... if you want to stick with that theme you may want to ask at their support forum.

I'm glad you keep your requirements simple too. :D

It's hard for other people to recommend themes as you know best what you want and don't want. Aside from looking at these links there's not much advice I can offer on that.

    http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/
    http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/commercial/
    http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/tag-filter/

What I recommend you do is create a new Crash Test Dummy installation with a new URL and hostname, check the Search Engine Visibility to "Discourage search engines from indexing this site. It is up to search engines to honor this request." and use that new installation to play with.

That way you can search and test new themes without impacting your actual WordPress installation.
