WordPress 3.1 Installtion on Locahlost -> Blank Page Problem (6 posts)

I had no problems installing a previous version of WordPress on my webserver, I just now tried installing the version 3.1 on my localhost xampp server and I got the blank page problem when trying to access wp-admin/install.php.

What I did:
1. create database in phpMyAdmin
2. rename and setup wp-config.php file
3. try to access wp-admin/install.php -> blank page

- wp-settings.php is there
- adding the index.php line to .htaccess did not work
- removing .htaccess completely did not work either
(I mean the .htaccess file located in xampp/htdocs/xampp)
- I've also tried redownloading and re-installing the wordpress package

Any other suggestions how to solve this?

3. try to access wp-admin/install.php -> blank page

did you have http://localhost/wp-admin/install.php

yes, I had, I just kept it short for the sake of it.

When I try to access http://localhost/server/wordpress/ (my full path to the wordpress folder), then it does NOT automatically take me to the install.php file either, like it normally would, no redirect happens, I simply get (again) a blank page.

I think it needs to be just http://localhost/wodpress if you have wordpress in htdocs

for install you will have
http://localhost/wodpress/wp-admin/install.php

no i have created a special folder for my server files inside htdocs and named it "server".

I turned on error reporting by adding:
define('WP_DEBUG', true);
into wp-config.php, and it turns out I simply had entered a wrong user name for the database connection, silly me.

Now it's working.
