WordPress 3.0 Install Problems (7 posts)

The stickied solutions are not working!!

This is my problem: First, I tried to install a plugin that didn't work so I deleted it after I got the 500 Internal Server Error. That brought my site back. I emptied all of my plugins and decided it was time to upgrade to 3.0 while I'm in the process of updating my website. Well, when I try to auto-install, WP hangs on the downloading the .zip file and does nothing. There is a 0KB temp file created in my wp-config folder, but nothing progresses beyond the downloading dialog. It doesn't matter how long I wait—I went to a production meeting and came back and it was still stuck there. So, I searched for help on the interwebs.

I have tried all the solutions.

I disabled plug-ins. I changed my wp-config.php file to up the limit from 32M to 64M (I don't have access to my php.ini and I didn't see a .htaccess even after I turned on hidden files). I went from 64M to 256M. I even tried a manual install but I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything by doing an automatic install over that. It went into maintenance mode. I had to delete the .maintenance file. Now, it's back to hanging on the .zip file when I try to auto-install.

The Memory Bump plugin does nothing for me, even if its the only plugin left on.

I don't understand the problem and I'm very frustrated. The manual upgrade appears to have "worked," but I don't think I'm seeing the new dashboard at all. I don't think 3.0 is fully functional on my system.

My host is 1and1.com and I have contacted them.

Is there anything else I can do while I wait? :(

I think at one and one you have to add this to your .htaccess file

    AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
    AddHandler application/x-httpd-php5 .php

I can't find an .htaccess file. I've even turned on hidden files on my FTP (Transmit). WP is installed in my root folder.

  4. Create a .htaccess file with that in it if you don't have one.

Just gave it a try. Still won't automatically download 3.0.

I think my manual install worked, however. :/

  6. There have been a lot of issues with 1and1.

This post had some solutions: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/411365?replies=39

Thanks for the link. I think I've got 3.0 working, even if it won't auto-download another update just for me to make sure.

I never got the update recognition screen when I logged into WP after a manual install, however.

Now, my theme isn't working, but that's a whole other forum ...
