   So, is there any talk yet anywhere about what 3.0 will be like? Anybody know where to go get involved?

   2.1 appears to be the number of the next big release.

   Lurking in the Hackers list would be a decent place to get started I reckon: http://codex.wordpress.org/Mailing_Lists#Hackers

   2.1 is not night and day compared to 2.0.x, but it's definitely a large step forward. :)

   Shouldn't the next public release actually be 2.2, since using the *nix version numbering, 2.1 is considered a development version whereas 2.2 is the stable 2.1 version release.

   Well, WordPress is not a *nix. Hence the versioning is strictly its own.
