WordPress 2.7 Visual Editor has Vanished on some Posts (86 posts)

    Yup, same problems here..

Tried it all. Disabled all my plug-ins (I dont have the seo, or the tinymce, or the flash plug-in) - nothing. cleared cache on the blog, and both on my browsers and my comp. Then tried the full delete and fresh install.. nothing works.

I do not have editing buttons on my editor, new or old posts.
The editor will only stay on what seems to be the HTML editor, and if I dare to click the HTML tab again the whole edit box collapses and wont come back until I refresh the page.
Also, on the little "Page options" button in the top right - I have to check the slug box every time anew.

Havent tried installing it on a different folder, didnt see a valid reason for that since I deleted the whole thing and installed again.

..There must be something more general behind this.

    Any other suggestions maybe?

I did solve this problem by:

    1. Disable Gears on my firefox.
    2. Disable ALL plugins.
    3. Clearing Cache.
    4. restart firefox.
    5. Visual editor now works.
    6. Enable plugins.
    7. Visual editor still works.

Well I did just that now. I hope I did it like you meant.
Disabled all firefox plugins, cleared the cache and restarted - no change.. :S

Maybe I did something wrong? But then those buttons should appear on my IE, Chrome or Maxthon.

The weird thing is that I do see those buttons for a blink of an eye just before the page is done loading. Then theyre gone...
That means a cache problem to me, but i did clean it all, Even deleted cookies and temp file manually from my computer..

    Lem4,

I have exactly the same issue. The Visual Editor appears on some posts for a slip second, then disappears. At the same time, other posts are not effected at all. This is the same no matter what browser I use or computer. These issues only started occuring when I upgraded to WP 2.7.

I wonder how many others are experiencing exactly this problem?

Having the same problem. This is pretty awful, I have to do all my posts by coding HTML.

I tried disabling all WordPress plugins and clearing the cache, nothing. The Visual editor never appears. The HTML editor only. When I click Visual, the textblock disappears. Then, when I click HTML after that, nothing happens either. It just says Wordcount: ..

    Yeah exactly..
I hope there will be a solution soon.
Meanwhile those of us with FF might be able to use the ScribeFire add-on to edit and publish posts. It may not be the best thing, but it may do for now :(

This is the exact problem I was having. I did indeed find a solution. Although we should be being provided with a fix by WP (if it is a WP problem and not a local problem).
All I did was install a plugin called "TinyMCE Advanced", and now I have all of the editing/formatting buttons when creating or editing posts/pages.
I'm so glad that I found a solution because it was getting extremely annoying to have to hand-code each post.

    Ok then I'll try that.
I was under the impression that this plugin is one of the causes for this bug, but lets give it a shot..

    Thanks!

This is getting annoying, even this didnt work..
I chose the buttons, and updated. got no other plugin installed there now, and still the same.

I think we'll need a WP solution because I don't know what else to do now.

Oh dear god... Alright it's fixed now.

What I did was go into my profile and check the "Don't use visual editor"
then I saved, and suddenly I had buttons on the HTML editor..!

Then I went back to my profile and unchecked that box, saved and ta-da the buttons stayed and I have both Visual and HTML editor that seem to be working perfectly (for now, shhhh..)

    Thank you all for helping!

Lem4, it worked for me too! Now I don't have to rely on that plugin to work for me. :)

I can't believe we didn't try that before. lol

    Congrats..!
I hope this helps other people too :)

...So that would mean it's a WP bug after all, no?

OK. Finally found out my problem. I had an htaccess file in the wp- folders blocking access. I removed them all (can't remember which one actually did the trick) and the problem has gone away.

Someone up there mentioned it but I simply couldn't see why it would be causing the problem (still don't) but it's sorted now!

    Still not working for me.

    Nothing helped:
    - disabling plugins
    - disable/enable visual editor in profile
    - install TinyMCE

And it happens both on FF and IE...?

Did you try deleting everything (watch you delete hidden .htaccess) and installing fresh?

I have a same problem, my visual editor was not appear on my screen, just html editor. I am using Chrome when I got that problem. But, when I switch my browser to Firefox, I didn't get any problem with visual editor.

Mine was fixed on two different blogs by updating FileZila to 3.1.6 and then uploading the entire wp-includes/js/tinymce folder again.

That's very strange. Everyone seems to have a different method for fixing the same issue. Personally, everything I have tried hasn't worked for so far. Although when I disable the Visual Editor the HTML Editor functions correctly, yet enabling it causes the same errors once again.

Ok one questions - did you try actually removing all plug-ins and not just disabling them?
I had some problems with my plug-ins and this version that were only solved by totally deleting the plug in from the plug in folder, and uploading the newest version of the plug-in again.

It sounds more and more like a js problem, and looks like it as well.
The questions is if the problem is for each of us individually, or is it something bigger caused by some WP code that just wont play well with others..

I solve this problem by clearing cache and cookies and restart Firefox. Try using opera.

This problem is due to missing Javascript. Double check your wp-includes/js/ folder to make sure that everything lines up with the information in this blog post I just made:

I think natarems solution, with all the cache and the cleaning should do the trick.
It does look like a js problem, so following the steps in his post should help most people.

For me the visual editor is not displaying the content text, it looks blank, but if I 'select all' the text is highlighted / it's still there, but just all white for some reason. I'm wondering if this is the case with all you others who have the same 'no content text' issue when the VISUAL tab is selected.

If I try to click on the HTML tab nothing happens until I save the post and start over --then the HTML version loads.

This happens on new and edited posts, in FF and IE, and with all plugins disabled. Just wanted to add my $0.02 to help us all figure this out. Thanks

..This is a new development.. ;-)
Have you tried actually removing the plug-in and re-installing? Disabling won't always work if this problem is related to what we had so far

Safari/MacOSX - (I tried FF too) This has brought my blog to a standstill. I was really looking forward to "Coltrane" and now this: No colors, html, NextGen is 4/5 steps to long - making it tedious to place an image, etc., I did the TinyMIce thing and poked around a little bit, but for us intermediates there needs to be a quicker fix. This is a real bummer. I'll have to wait for "Miles Davis" ...

other than that BIG problem - everything else looks great!

*I broke my Cardinal Rule: Always give a new release a few months before installing it - d*rn, never again.

    CyStat
    CyStats Uninstaller

    Event Calendar Widget
    Events Calendar

    Google XML Sitemaps
    GoStats
    GoStats Map Widget
    Hello Dolly
    myWeather
    NASA Image Of The Day
    NextGEN Gallery
    podPress
    PXS Mail Form
    StatPress
    Style Tweaker
    TinyMCE Advanced

    WP Easy PHP Calendar Admin

    ... and "how?"

    UncleAsh,

    Step 1: Deactivate TinyMCE Advanced
Step 2: Follow my instructions in the blog post linked above -- ie, completely delete and repopulate your /wp-includes/js/ directory.

Then go to a Ctrl+R (or the force refresh in Mac) on a post. Your problem should be fixed.
