WordPress 2.7 Installation Still Wonky After A Week
-
First off, I’ll admit. I’m a wordpress newbie. I’ve spent hours scouring through the forums and trying to fix this problem on my own. From what I can tell, it could be one of three things, but I just can’t pinpoint it. I’m hoping someone can take a look at it for me.
Last week, I installed wp 2.7. I was an idiot and used the automatic upgrade plugin and it seems to have borked my blog. I got rid of the plugin and reinstalled through version 2.7. Then did it again through Fantastico. To date, I still haven’t been able to fix the problem despite numerous emails with my host and hours of scouring the forums.
Basically, I’m getting a 404 error on everything — my posts, my categories and my pages. The front page loads fine, but when I try to access anything beyond it, I get bounced. There are several threads here about 404 errors. I’ve read them all. I’ve tried them all to the best of my ability. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong, but darned if I can’t figure out my mistakes.
I’ve reinstalled v.2.7 three times. Earlier this week, I had tech support from my host try to give me a hand. They tried to reinstall v.2.6.5 and couldn’t. Then they reverted back to v2.7 and still couldn’t figure out what the problem was either. I’ve changed my theme. I’ve messed around with the permalinks, by going from default to pretty and back again. I deactivated all the plugins and I’m still getting nothing.
I’ve noticed that several other people have had the same problem in the forums. Since all of the problems seem spread out across the forums – a question of permalinks, .htaccess and magic-quotes – and I am a wordpress dummy – I’m having a super hard time trying to figure out what I should be doing first. I’m confused with what the problem actually is. Can anyone help me without sending me into code land where I get lost and bewildered? Will this problem be fixed in 2.7.1? Do I have to wait until then? Please please please, someone help me.
