Using IE7 I can not click on the body of the write a post page.
Using Firefox, the link button - brings up a blank, non-closable box.
Why is this beta software constantly being released when it's not stable?

Is this only the "write post" page or does it also happen if you try to post a comment?

dsquared: WordPress is perfectly stable. Either your particular installation is broken, or your browser/proxy/adblocker is interfering.
Don't blame the software when the fault is something on your end.

Posted 5 years ago #Otto42 - You are wrong as I reinstalled it not once, but twice - also happens on two different pc's on totally different networks - wordpress installations everywhere are unstable and falling apart - the problem is that there is no professional testing process of this software across enough scenarios and it's becoming way too high maintenance.
Try asking about the facts before making baseless and factually incorrect assumptions.

What did you have in mind.
Again - Otto42 a full reinstall of any professionally run software wouldn't have these issues - simplemachines.org forum software for example - updates in seconds and is flawless - wordpress is becoming a total unstable joke.

I just completely uninstalled Friefox and reinstalled it and wordpress 2.1.1 doesn't work right
WordPress 2.1.1 is a seriously unstable software that doesn't allow me to mouse click on the post body section in write when using IE7 and the link functionaity is broken in Firefox - even after a reinstall - the problem is not Firefox - it's the repetitive pattern of unprofessional releases - borken feedburner in 2.0.6 for example that tells me the testing process is completely insufficienct regarding WordPress releases.

let's focus on the real issue - finding the bug in wordpress and getting 2.1.2 out today

Posted 5 years ago #I do have some error_log files in the plugins - I've never gotten these before intalling 2.1 series
I want to apoligize for being upset, it's just the last several upgrades of wordpress have not been what I would call smooth and there doesn't seem to be a sense of urgency from Mr. Mullenweg to make the applicaion stable.

If it's so unstable, then don't use it. Complaining about free software is likely to just fall on deaf ears.
Oh, as for 2.1.1... It works for me. I'm able to do all the things you can't seem to do. Sorry.

It used to work great, these past few versions have been filled with bugs.
Your closed mindedness towards the roots causes are quite sad.

I have a client who can't click on 'Write a Post' in Admin without his IE6 browser crashing. He tried shutting down all firewalls, spyware, anti-virus, etc. etc.He can post comments on the client side. He simply can't click on Write a Post.
I can do it, and I have IE6. I'm not sure what other suggestions to give him? Any thoughts?
(Not to hijack the thread but it seems related?)

1. There are many many thousands of sites that work fine with it. It is obviously a combination of your set up, your host and WP so your claim (and rather childish blog post) that WP is broken isn't true.
2. WP is community software, developed by volunteers. There is no warranty that it will work 100% perfectly in every situation and if that doesn't suit your needs then you shouldn't use it - you haven't paid for it and you haven't contributed to it so the community doesn't owe you anything. The support you get here comes from volunteers who help because they want to.
3. People generally don't help people who are rude. By wrongly denouncing WP as unstable and unfit for purpose you are being rude to the people who created it and who you expect to help you. -

Posted 5 years ago #As two wrongs don't make a right, I apologized for being upset - which you perceived as rude.
Until WordPress.org puts up a page that fully explains "How to be the Best WordPress Host Imaginable" with clear and explicit steps on what that means, blaming the hosts is a bad idea as you have failed to put them in a position to succeed. It also enables these types of issues to escalate like the one we just had. I strongly encourage the creation of such a page.
Like I said, I'd gladly pay a few dollars a month for a stable install.
Let's move on to the problem at hand please.

Upgrade to 2.1.1. There were some bug fixes.
Note - I have 2.1 running stable on 3 differing sites - one with 53 plugins activated for testing purposes. To say the software is broken or unstable is ridiculous.
This was a major upgrade and I don't imagine 1% of the folks that upgraded did their homework on installing it - such as disabling all pugins before installing for example.
As the above post shows, no one reads the docs for the EXPLICIT 2.1 install instructions.
There is also a "sticky" in the installation forum that should be read.@ dsquared - you have made your feelings known about 2.1. Drop the attitude or I will close this topic and any others you start. We get the message - you're frustrated and we've all been there. Others seem to handle it better, however.
To everyone - stick to the subject!

Posted 5 years ago #Unchecking this box on the user >> your profile page - solves the problem on both browsers - it also disables viper's video - but I'll *gladly* take that tradeoff for the moment - I think you keyed in on the problem area very quickly - suggestions for permanent fix? Thanks for solving the immediate crisis, I appreciate it.

Well now I think you may have a corrupted file in the TinyMCE.
Just for kicks, download a fresh 2.1.1 and upload the wp-includes folder and check again. -
Posted 5 years ago #I must unfortunately report that after redownloading, deleting the wp-includes folder and uploading the new one fresh - that I get the same behavior when rechecking the box.
Also, wanted to remind you of the two plugin error_log's (though I presently have them deactivated)

I could be in error, but I believe the wp-cache plugin will probably interfere with WP's caching in 2.1.x.
