    Hello,

I am a new user and I have setup wordpress on my own home server which runs windows xp, apache2.2.4 and php5.2.1

The problem is that I *cannot* setup my system to send e-mails either from phpbb2 or wordpress. For example when a new user registers in wordpress he does not receive by email the password.

Does anybody knows where I can find instructions to setup my windows system so it can send emails from wordpress?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you very much.
    George.

What you need to setup is PHP itself. Most packages use the built in PHP mail functions to send mail, but this depends on PHP being setup properly in the first place.

All you really have to do is to fill in the correct values in your PHP.INI file, wherever that is on your system.

All you really need is to setup the correct SMTP and smtp_port settings. However, the various settings available to you are explained here: http://php.net/mail . Note that for Windows, you do not need to install "sendmail". All you need is to configure the INI file.

Also, I highly recommend against using plugins like suggested above. These are problematic and generally require core code changes. Avoid them and stick with the built in mail functionality. It works, and works well. You simply have to configure it properly.
