I want to start a new blog. Some of the features I want are: advertising for revenue, amazon associates, bulletin board, photo album.

My question is: Are there sufficient added modules from 3rd parties to simply use WordPress and these add-ons, or am I better off using Joomla+Wordpress?

I have explored joomla/WP but found that this combo does not allow WP to have categories and I think there may be other shortcomings that a stand alone WP would not have.

I don’t know PHP so the easiest method is what I need. Any thoughts? Anyone using Joomla/WP with similar features?

    – there are many different plugins for doing adsense-type stuff. obviously, you can just edit the template(s) too.

    – CG-Amazon (my plugin), as well as two or three others, give you a wide range of Amazon live integration.

    – there are numerous discussion about integrating WP with boards. depending on the level of integration you want, some boards may be a bit more work to set up than others (for instance, bbPress should be pretty easy to integrate as it’s already set up to share the WP user tables…).

    – there have got to be 8-10 gallery/album systems people have built for WP or integrated with WP.

I’m not altogether sure what the purpose of Joomla+WP is. If you want to use Joomla, use it — if you want to use WP, use it. They’d seem to have pretty heavy overlap, with Joomla being bigger, heaviery, more featured (in some ways). Do you want a blog, or a community site? Do you like WP sites? Do you like Joomla sites? etc.
