    Hey Guys!

Would love to hear your opinion on what i’ve got so far on my new blog. In particular i would like to hear your opinions on the blog overview page/home page and single post template.

I’m primarily looking for feedback like:

    • Is there anything lacking from the structure? Do you miss any kind of navigation or other features?
    • Does the primary and secondary navigation make sense to you?
    • Possible usability issues
    • How about page load speed?
    • Is the typography easily readable and aestethically pleasing on your monitor?
    • Do you like the design so far?
    • Do you have any ideas for improvement?

Please include your browser version if you find any bugs.

    – A big thanks to anyone who gives this a quick look-over and help me find all the little flaws and bugs on my new site 🙂

I think your site is fine, it’s not the typical layout and took me a couple of seconds to get use to it all, but it works quite well together.

    Good job.

    Thanks, spatch 🙂

Still a lot of details to work out, but glad you liked the site overall.

Four columns with various sized boxes comes off as cluttered to me. Too much in one place…I prefer solid navigation to find what I’m looking for than having to muddle through an endless, unordered page of misc. articles.

Your footer is nearly unreadable with gray text on a black background.

    Good luck,
    Nick

I’m sorry to hear it all seems like a cluttered mess to you. I guess masonry style layout really is a question of aesthetical preference. To me it gives an interesting dynamic in the content when you browse a big set of images, blog posts et cetera.

I am planning to add a second level of navigation where you can filter the posts by category, tag and type using isotope so it all updates fluidly without any page loads.

About the footer: Interesting to hear there’s such a big difference between your monitor and mine. Both at my home iMac, my Cinema Display at work, my buddy’s PC monitor, my phone and my iPad render the footer text legibly. Good to know there’s a cut-off. I’ll try adding a bit more contrast.

You need to know basic HTML and CSS. A little PHP goes a long way too. This is a great place to start: The Ultimate WordPress Theme Tutorial

    @ahrengot,

Yea, it is a personal preference for your layout. But you have to weigh your personal preference to what visitors in general may or may not like. You’ll lose some visitors, like me, due to the random layout.

All that being said, I’m an old engineer…we like things structured and ordered, LOL

    All the best,
    Nick
