I'm on a Windows Server, and I'm having trouble changing permalinks. I want my site to just be site.com, not site.com/Index.php, and I want my pages on the menu to be site.com/pagename, not site.com/?=php8 or whatever it is. Whenever I click on a template for permalinks in my WP-Admin and hit update, my website "cannot be found" on the URL. Any advice? There has to be a way.
Hiya, there are tons of threads on Windows & permalinks - I suggest you check them out and try some of the solutions suggested for your configuration:

Hi hitman200x, i've a wp 3.1 in IIS 6.0 and i can't have permalinks woth right even with 404-handler.php trick solution (my home page show a 500 error), and after upgrade to 3.1 now my root show domain.org/index.php/ (after was domain.org) have you found any solution for this? and to fix permalinks.
thanks for your reply
I'll give a try to "Permalink Fix & Disable Canonical Redirects Pack" plugin, because i don't that recreate .htaccess had any effect on windows platform. Or well maybe we need just wait to the next 3.1.1 update,
Best regards
Well permalink-fix-disable-canonical-redirects-pack plugin solved, no more /index.php/ at wp home (wp 3.1 in IIS 6.0)
